Maple Syrup

Hamilton Family Maple Syrup Producers

Pure Maple Products is a family operation that has been operating for over five generations. Both of my parent's families made syrup when they were growing up and their parent's can remember a time when maple syrup was the main sweetener in the kitchen.

In 1872 when my great, great grandfather Thomas Emeline started making syrup they used steel panes over a cast iron arch and they fired with wood. They used wooden buckets instead of the metal used in my grandfather's time. They also used wooden storage tanks and hewn out troughs instead of the stainless steel tanks and plastic pipes that we use today.

Today we use the highest quality equipment to produce you the highest quality maple syrup possible. We use plastic tubing instead of buckets and natural gas instead of wood. We also use piggy back pans, steam hoods, and ceramic blankets to get the sap that we collect from a sugar maple tree into syrup as fast as possible. This is done to make you the customer the highest table grade maple syrup available.

Hamiltons maple products has come through five generations of maple syrup producers. Since the start of the family operation back in the late 1800's we have made strides in the production of our maple syrup. Just like most advances in technology we are now a state of the art producer of pure maple syrup.

The family operation started with an old wood fired arch and pan system fed by long nights of keeping the fire stoked and days of gathering the sap from the buckets that were strung throughout the woods. In those days sap was gathered using a carriage pulled by a team of horses or sometimes even oxen. The syrup that was produced was mainly for family and town use. Then along came the gasoline engine.

Upon the arival of the gasoline engine the work in the maple woods was sped up dramaticaly along with the rest of the world. The invention of the first power tapper helped our family tap the trees in a much more orderly fashion and the gas powered tractor sped up the gathering of the sap as well. But back at the sugar house syrup was still being produced useing the old wood fired evaporator and pans with sugar steam flooding the sugar house.

Today our sugar house has moved out of the old woods and has sped up dramaticaly from the days of the horse and buggy. We now put out 3500 taps and make between 500 and 800 gallons of syrup per year. We now use a 4x12 stainless steel pan system with piggy back so that steam does not blow every where and the syrup will cook faster to produce a higher quality product. We also use gas instead of wood and a reverse osmosis machine to help speed up the syrup making process.

From then until know Hamiltons maple products has jumped the through the generations and survived the years.
